Every country approaches aging in its own way, and every community has its own set of successes and challenges when it comes to senior care.
Nurse Next Door wants to redefine aging on a global scale, which is why we’re now creating the blueprints to expand into multiple countries over the next 12 months.
In our last article, we announced Nurse Next Door’s foray into Australia, and why we chose this country for our first overseas launch. What we didn’t tell you, though, is that we don’t plan to stop with the Land Down Under.
Over the last several years, we’ve been studying international markets and preparing our model to align with and address each country’s existing systems and opportunities. Brands who enter a new territory without adapting their model to the local culture don’t typically have staying power. We’re willing to take our time, only considering markets where Nurse Next Door will make an impact, and bring in a model that best suits that area.
Take Germany for example, where by 2019, there will be fewer Germans under the age of 30 than those who are over 60 years old. Or China, the proportion of the Chinese elderly will double in the next 20 years!
The goal is to make as many lives better as possible. We’re prepared to disrupt outdated views on aging while shaking up what it means to provide home care. If that means painting every nation pink, so be it!
We plan to bring Happier Aging to China as a joint venture, rather than a traditional master franchise agreement. One lasting outcome of China’s former one-child policy has left many couples taking care of two sets of aging parents with no siblings to help, and Nurse Next Door will be able to provide an extra set of hands for many families.
We also plan to enter the UK and Germany–the former with a traditional franchise model and unit-level partners, and the latter under a master franchise model. In both of these countries, we’ll be addressing the needs of their seniors and working within the structure of their health care system.
As we find our footing in new countries, we plan to start with several locations while we get established. But you can expect the Nurse Next Door footprint to grow at a strong rate shortly after. This confidence stems from our experience launching 40+ franchises simultaneously in southern California as we teamed up with the St. Joseph Health System.
In the end, it’s a matter of finding the right individuals to take on the first few locations, training them on the brand and operations, and supporting them as they launch. With interest in the Nurse Next Door brand growing overseas, we’re looking forward to helping even more millions of seniors and their families redefine what it means to get older, and age happier at home.
